GoByBike Week 2025 is almost here! This long-standing BC event embraces cycling to promote health, wellness and sustainability. It’s also a great opportunity to connect with fellow riders, get a free bike tune-up and win some awesome prizes!

Join the TRU team: Folks on Spokes

All TRU students, staff and faculty are invited to participate by joining the TRU team, Folks on Spokes. To join:

  1. Follow this link
  2. Create an account or login to your existing account
  3. Click the red Join Team button
  4. Search for “TRU Folks on Spokes”

To be eligible for prizes, you must have an account and log at least one day of commuting kilometers (km). Do you already have an account? Just log in and start recording your daily km. The more days you ride and log your commute, the better your chances of winning!

The official GoByBike Week runs from Sept. 27 – Oct. 3, but TRU’s focus is Monday to Friday. If you work weekends, you can still log your commute.

Here’s what to expect for GoByBike Week 2025 at TRU

Free U-Help bike tune-ups and 529 Garage registration

Get expert advice and a free tune-up from a bike mechanic—and you might learn a few maintenance tips as well! Also, sign up for 529 Garage, an anti-bike theft application.

Date: Sept. 24 – 25 (the week before GoByBike Week)
Venue: Main TRU bike shelter (across from House 4)
There are six 20-minute time slots available each day:

  • 11:30 - 11:50 a.m.
  • 11:50 - 12:10 p.m.
  • 12:10 - 12:30 p.m.
  • 12:30 - 12:50 p.m.
  • 12:50 - 1:10 p.m.
  • 1:10 - 1:30 p.m.

Registration is required, email sustain@tru.ca with your preferred time slot. Please arrive on time.

Sign up for 529 Garage for bike security

Register your bike with 529 Garage during the bike tune-up sessions and receive a free 529 Garage tamper-proof decal. These decals help authorities like RCMP to identify and recover lost or stolen bikes.

Wrap-up event

Join us to celebrate the end of GoByBike Week with food, fun and prizes!
Date: Friday Oct. 3
Venue: The Noble Pig, 650 Victoria Street, Kamloops.
Time: 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Enjoy free appetizers and test your knowledge with Bicycle Trivia. This free event is open to anyone registered in GoByBike Week who has logged at least one ride.

Email sustain@tru.ca to register to attend by Oct. 2.

Prizes

Daily Prize Draws

Log your commute km each weekday for a chance to win one of three awesome bike-related prizes (flashing light, multi-tool or air pump). The more days you log your commute km, the better your chances of winning! You can only win once.

Grand prize draw

All team members of Folks on Spokes who record at least one day of their commute will be entered to win a $75 gift certificate to their favorite bike shop.

Sign up for 529 Garage for bike security

Winter Riding Tips

Click here to see winter riding tips
  • Wear reflective or high-visibility clothing and use front/rear lights.
  • Check road and weather conditions before you ride and adjust your route if needed.
  • Give yourself extra time and ride more slowly on icy or snowy surfaces.
  • Dress in layers and protect hands/feet from wind and moisture.
  • Keep your bike maintained (tire pressure, brakes, chain) for winter conditions.
